Introduction to Python Programming

What you'll learn.

Introduction to Python Programming is a rigorous, college-level first course in computer programming using the Python language. No prior programming experience is assumed. Through structured lessons, worked examples, auto-graded quizzes, and a capstone project, students learn to design, write, test, and debug programs that solve real problems. ## Course-level learning outcomes Upon successful completion, students will be able to: 1. Write, run, and debug Python programs using variables, expressions, and standard input/output. 2. Apply control flow (conditionals and loops) to express algorithms. 3. Select and use appropriate built-in data structures (strings, lists, tuples, dictionaries, sets). 4. Decompose problems into reusable functions and modules with correct scope and parameter passing. 5. Read from and write to files, handle errors with exceptions, and process structured data (CSV/JSON). 6. Apply foundational object-oriented and algorithmic concepts, and verify correctness through testing. ## Credit & rigor ~45 hours of instruction. Assessment is a proctored, webcam-monitored final exam (70% to pass) plus per-module mastery checks. Equivalent in scope to a one-semester introductory programming course (CS1). Submitted for ACE credit review.
